OSIsoft, LLC., a global leader in enterprise infrastructure for management of real-time data and events, was proud to present the Engineering Innovation Award for the sixth consecutive year at the Gala of Excellence of the Ordre des ingenieurs du Quebec (OIQ). This year's prize was won last April by the engineering consulting firm exp, who specializes in professional, technical and strategic services in six key environment practice areas: Buildings, Earth & Environment, Energy, Industrial, Infrastructure, and Sustainability. Under engineer Stephane Chabot, technical coordinator of the project, exp invented an innovative process to oxidize and destroy certain water-soluble volatile organic compounds.

Called photocatalytic gas treatment (PGT), the new process was developed for the wood panel manufacturer Uniboard, which called on exp to replace the air pollution control system at one of its plants in the United States. The compounds (such as formaldehyde and methanol) oxidized and destroyed by PGT using hydrogen peroxide are among the waste gases produced by the plant. More economical than existing technologies, PGT generates no greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and meets the standards of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for MACT (Maximum Achievable Control Technology) and the environmental requirements of the state of North Carolina.
