BOSTON, MA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/04/13 -- SageCloud, Inc., an early-stage software company developing energy-efficient solutions at disruptive price points for cold data storage, today announced the Company's relocation from Marblehead, MA to new headquarters at 2 Oliver Street near Post Office Square in Boston. To accommodate a growing team of engineers, SageCloud will occupy a 6300 sq ft office with options for contiguous space.
Data storage is estimated to grow at 60% per year -- fueled by archive regulations, Big Data analytics, expanding video file size, and more -- but IT budgets, growing at 5%, are struggling to keep up. Industry experts estimate that as much as 80% of that data growth qualifies as cold data -- data that is written once and infrequently accessed. SageCloud is developing energy-efficient, software-driven solutions designed to significantly lower the cost of storing this endlessly accumulating backup and archival data.
SageCloud Founder and CEO, Jeff Flowers, identified the emerging need for next-gen cold storage solutions as a result of his experience managing over hundreds of petabytes of storage at Carbonite, where he was formerly Co-Founder and CTO. To augment the initial core development team of former Carbonite programmers and architects, SageCloud will be expanding engineering to 15 people over the remainder of 2013 as the Company brings its first solution, currently in Beta, to market. SageCloud also announced today the addition of three software veterans to the executive team. {See "SageCloud Expands Exec Team"}.
"All of my previous startup companies have been located in Boston," said Flowers. "We are excited about finding a Hub location that is central to most transportation nodes, in walking distance to great spots for food, and in close touch with Boston's technology innovation and business communities."
About SageCloud
SageCloud's mission is to deliver breakthrough price points for Cold Storage Tiering -- cost-effectively managing storage of petabyte-scale data that is written once but infrequently accessed. With SageCloud, data center professionals can reap the benefits of storage on disk at price points approaching storage on tape. To achieve these new economies, the SageCloud team has developed cutting-edge software that resolves the data durability deficiencies of commodity drives and leverages better power management designs of open stack enclosures. SageCloud, based in Boston, is venture capital-backed by Matrix Partners.
