SAN DIEGO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/05/13 -- QuickFire Networks Corporation introduces a new industry benchmark for high-end servers: energy efficiency. QuickFire Networks' T-Video appliances, based upon the 4th generation Intel® Core processor family (formerly codenamed "Haswell"), available later this year, will offer as-yet unseen energy efficiency, as well as continue to provide carrier-grade reliability and scalability and the levels of density demanded by operators who need to provide custom video streams to subscribers regardless of device or access network.
"As mobile video use continues to exponentially grow, and as this drives collateral demand for data center equipment, it is our responsibility to ensure that we minimize the impact on the environment," said Mike Coward, Founder and CEO of Quickfire Networks Corporation. "Current data centers are based on systems that emphasize common-off-the-shelf (COTS) designs to leverage costs. However, these systems are built to appeal to a wide group of customers and are not optimized for performance, cost or power consumption."
Today, T-Video can deliver up to 72 live transcoded 1080p videos in a single rack unit. This can be done using only 500 Watts, or 7 Watts per video channel. By adopting 4th generation Intel Core processor designs, QuickFire Networks will be able to provide greater capacity with an energy budget of under 4 Watts per video channel. Today, most COTS-based systems use up to 10x more power, or 75 Watts per video channel.
"The improvements in CPU performance, media and graphics capabilities, security and power efficiency in the 4th generation Intel® Core processor family are ideal for high-performance video appliances such as those being offered by QuickFire Networks," said Steve Price, General Manager for Intel's Communications Infrastructure Division. "By delivering solutions with stronger performance in a lower power envelope, Intel's new processors are enabling network transformation in communications appliances."
ABOUT THE T-VIDEO PLATFORM
T-Video is ideally suited for video optimization. It's 3X denser/higher-performance than the best available bladed telecommunications solution, and 15X denser than other leading server solutions. This density makes it possible to broadly deploy video optimization services for every subscriber, benefiting the entire value chain including better video for the subscriber and better economics for the operator. The 10-20 percent improvement mobile operators typically gain with incremental upgrades to existing server solutions is far overshadowed by the disruptive density/performance improvements via QuickFire Networks' T-Video platform.
