SPRINGDALE, OH -- (Marketwired) -- 06/10/13 -- As Cincom Systems prepares to celebrate its 45th anniversary as the first modern software technology company in Cincinnati, the company and its employees remember another first: the first time commercial supersonic flight landed in Cincinnati.

On this date in 1988, Cincom celebrated its 20th anniversary -- and Cincinnati's bicentennial -- by bringing a British Airways Concorde supersonic jet to Cincinnati, carrying 70 Cincom clients from 10 European countries. Cincom was the first U.S. company to charter the plane for corporate purposes and it was the first time the high-speed jet made a private landing in Cincinnati. In fact, it was the first time the Concorde had ever come to an inland American city.

A local radio station, 55KRC, broadcast the five low-altitude "fly-bys" that Cincom had arranged for the people of Cincinnati. In a newspaper interview, Nies said, "We are proud to share with Cincinnati this kind of high technology which is leading us into the 21st century."

Commercial supersonic flight is now banned to fly over land due to the noise created by sonic booms. However, Boeing, parent company of Cincom customer Boeing Canada, and NASA are working to develop a quieter supersonic jet.
