MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 06/26/13 -- ElasticBox, a leading provider of cloud application lifecycle management solutions, today unveiled a new version of the ElasticBox platform, Version 2.0, which enables enterprises to define and rapidly deploy applications in any cloud -- public, private, or hybrid.
Since raising $3.4 million in seed funding, led by Sierra Ventures with participation from Andreessen Horowitz, Intel Capital, and Nexus Venture Partners, ElasticBox has expanded its world-class team to include executives and engineers from Microsoft, VMware, Cisco, and IBM. The company is also experiencing strong market momentum, adding customers, including Netflix, to its roster.
"Next generation IT is about enterprise transformation through innovation," said Mike D. Kail, VP of IT Operations of Netflix. "ElasticBox provides us an integrated platform, allowing IT to develop self-service best practices and unleash collaboration throughout our organization."
The ElasticBox platform was purpose-built to enable developers and IT operations to innovate new applications across private, public, or hybrid clouds, without worrying about implementation of the underlying infrastructure. With ElasticBox 2.0, users can develop, reuse, and re-purpose application "boxes," or templates, across the various development and test groups, while maintaining IT governance and compliance. Enterprises can easily establish consistency between development, quality assurance, staging, and production environments, and apply policy-based access control and resource allocation to provision heterogeneous cloud environments.
Key ElasticBox Features
The ElasticBox platform allows enterprises to define and deploy new, existing and cloud-ready applications in three simple steps. Customers can:
1. Add their cloud infrastructure vendors and accounts.
2. Create "boxes," or component templates to include databases, language runtimes, web servers, middleware, and more, that then is reusable by everyone from developers to QA to IT Operations.
3. Deploy applications quickly and easily with one click, and scale up or down based on demand, or move applications between providers based on business requirements.
"Historically, a healthy tension has existed between developers, IT Operations, and the CIO. Developers need cloud resources on-demand; IT Operations seek to build best practices and streamline the application lifecycle; and the CIO wants to drive business innovation without compromising governance," said Ravi Srivatsav, co-founder and CEO of ElasticBox. "By delivering a unified platform that promotes innovation and team collaboration, ElasticBox is creating -- for the first time -- a powerful win-win-win partnership between key stakeholders in the application lifecycle."
"ElasticBox addresses one of the biggest challenges facing enterprises -- application deployment and management in heterogeneous clouds without vendor lock-in," said Mark Fernandes, managing partner of Sierra Ventures. "This was strongly validated by many of the Fortune 1000 enterprises of the Sierra CIO Board."
