SUNNYVALE, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 07/09/13 -- Meru Networks® (NASDAQ: MERU), a leader in Wi-Fi networking, today announced Kingsborough Community College has deployed a campus-wide Meru Education-grade (MEG) wireless solution to support rapid growth of mobile devices and application traffic. According to college IT leaders, deployment of reliable and pervasive Wi-Fi is a business decision to accelerate student success, attract partnerships and engage the public.
The Kingsborough deployment covers the school's entire 77-acre campus, which features 197 "Smart Classrooms," commons areas of 19 buildings, two theatres, a marina, a private beach, multiple baseball diamonds and miles of trails and walkways. This is achieved with two Meru MC4200 controllers and approximately 600 access points. It also includes Meru's industry-leading guest access solution, Identity Manager, in addition to Meru's E(z)RF® Network Manager and Meru Spectrum Manager.
"In addition to serving our students and faculty, the advanced Wi-Fi network helps attract world-class events and conferences to Kingsborough campus and raise money for our scholarship funds," said Asif Hussain, CIO at Kingsborough. "With the Meru Identity Manager, we can simply and easily give registered guests access to a truly outstanding Wi-Fi network and ensure that their experience at our facility is uniformly positive."
Meru's MEG solution is designed to solve colleges' and universities' BYOD issues and support their uninterrupted learning applications. MEG starts with three simple steps:
1. Onboard quickly with BYOD provisioning and secure wireless access mapped to IT policies.
2. Connect all BYOD devices reliably anywhere on campus.
3. Learn by deploying validated learning and teaching applications on BYOD devices over the MEG wireless platform.
Named one of the top community colleges in the country by The New York Times, Kingsborough offers a wide range of courses in the liberal arts. Most classes have fewer than 30 students, allowing professors to teach through hands-on learning and group discussions, using the latest technology, such as smart classrooms and video-conferencing rooms.
"Kingsborough Community College realized that a world-class wireless infrastructure that enables students, faculty and guests to connect securely can actually generate revenue for the organization," said Sarosh Vesuna, vice president and general manager of the education business unit at Meru. "By deploying Meru's MEG mobility platform, the college has developed a truly advanced communications infrastructure with solid ROI."
