MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 08/28/13 -- Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC) today announced the nomination of two new independent members of the company's board of directors. Stockholders will vote on the nominees at the company's Annual Meeting on October 22, 2013. The nominees are:
"Ms. Sands and Major General Vautrinot possess an incredible depth of industry knowledge, operational expertise and proven change-management leadership, both in government and the private sector, which will greatly enhance the board's efforts in shaping Symantec," said Daniel Schulman, chairman of the company's board of directors. Major General Vautrinot, who will be retiring on October 1, 2013, managed the Air Force's component that provides combatant commanders with trained and ready cyber forces. In that role she led 14,000 people, managed an annual budget of $600 million and advised on an additional related budget of $2.2 billion. General Vautrinot has served in various leadership positions in cyber operations, strategic security and space operations. Before assuming her most recent post, she was director of Plans, Policy and Capabilities at U.S. Cyber Command. She holds a Master of Science degree in Systems Management from USC, and a Bachelor of Science degree from the U.S. Air Force Academy. She earned a National Security Fellowship at the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University and attended both the Air Command and Staff College and Armed Forces Staff College.
Ms. Sands, who will be leaving UBS in the coming months, has enjoyed a distinguished career as a global technology and business leader and advocate for the advancement of women. She joined UBS Wealth Management Americas as the chief operating officer and later took the position of head of change leadership. At UBS she developed and executed the organization's transformation strategy through the introduction of innovative processes and industry leading technology platforms. She previously served as managing director, head of Transformational Management at Citigroup; senior vice president and head of Innovation and Process Design at the Royal Bank of Canada; and director of CIBC Treasury and World Markets at CIBC. She holds a Ph.D. in Atomic and Molecular Physics and a First Class Honors degree in Physics and Applied Mathematics from Queen's University of Belfast, and she was a Fulbright Scholar at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, where she graduated with highest distinction with a Masters degree in Public Policy and Management.
