OSHAWA, ONTARIO -- (Marketwired) -- 09/04/13 -- Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac dealers delivered 21,091 vehicles in August 2013 an increase of 0.1 per cent compared to last August. Overall, retail sales were up 5 per cent and fleet sales were down 18 per cent.

"Canadian customers appreciate the value and fuel efficiency of mini, small and compact cars and sales of the Chevrolet Spark, Sonic, Volt and Cruze, along with the new Buick Verano experienced an increase of 13 per cent for the month of August," said John Roth, vice president, sales, service and marketing, General Motors of Canada. "Joining our fuel efficient lineup this summer is the 2014 Chevy Clean Turbo Diesel Cruze, the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid car on the market, which just set a record for traveling from Vancouver to Halifax on just four and a quarter tanks of gas."

For the month of August, General Motors of Canada's Crossover portfolio continued to gain momentum in the marketplace with an overall increase of 13 per cent. Success of the Crossover portfolio is attributed to strong performance by the Chevrolet Traverse that saw an increase of 18 per cent, in addition to the division's latest entry into the Small SUV category, the Chevrolet Trax.

August 2013 Sales Highlights

--  Chevrolet Cruze sales were up 16 per cent for the month 
    
--  Buick sales increased 18 per cent driven by the Verano and the all-new
    Buick Encore, a 2013 IIHS Top Safety Pick. Total Verano sales increased
    7 per cent  
    
--  Cadillac sales increased year over year for an 11th consecutive month
    with an increase of 54 per cent in August
