FREMONT, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 09/25/13 -- AMAX, a leading innovator of Datacenter and HPC solutions for Open Stack, Hadoop and Parallel Computing, is proud to announce their PHAT-Data total turnkey Hadoop cluster has won the Innovative Solution Award at Ingram Micro's Annual System ArchiTECHS award ceremony presented on September 17th in Philadelphia, PA.
The Innovative Solution Award celebrates the most innovative technology developed by Ingram Micro's manufacturing partners using off-the-shelf components. AMAX's PHAT Data cluster demonstrated superior manufacturing design and optimization for Hadoop workloads, and when configured with a data compression accelerator, is capable of performing a 1TB Terasort in under 24 minutes using only 3 nodes. The solution can either be geared towards performance optimization, demonstrating 40% better performance than comparable Hadoop clusters of the same size, or can be geared towards density- and cost-efficiency by achieving similar performance to comparable clusters using 30% fewer nodes or 50% fewer hard drives. Because PHAT Data does not utilize SSDs to achieve these performance and efficiency gains, the total solution achieves its performance acceleration cost-effectively without sacrificing density. With its compatibility with all Hadoop distributions from Cloudera, Hortonworks, IDH, etc, and customizable configuration geared towards specific workloads, PHAT Data versatility allows it to be a solution for scaling existing Hadoop infrastructure or as a PoC for building Hadoop engines.
"PHAT Data is the result of our engineering efforts to tackle sweet spot for Hadoop requirements," said Julia Shih, Director of Strategic Alliance, AMAX. "Whether it's real-time performance, or analyzing large amounts of data as cost-effectively as possible while maximizing the density within a datacenter footprint, PHAT Data was designed to achieve a win-win. Winning this Innovative Solution Award is great validation that we've achieved a major design win."
