SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- (Marketwired) -- 10/21/13 -- The OpenDaylight Project, a community-led and industry-supported open source framework to advance Software-Defined Networking (SDN), has received a 2013 Excellence in SDN Award presented by TMC's INTERNET TELEPHONY Magazine and SDN Zone.
OpenDaylight is receiving the Excellence in SDN Award in the "Most Disruptive" category, which recognizes companies, organizations or projects in the Software-Defined Networking (SDN) space that are changing the way applications and networks are viewed within the industry. The OpenDaylight Project's developer-driven, open source and collaborative model is primed to disrupt the way the industry thinks about and builds networking infrastructures.
"The OpenDaylight Project is a community of developers and users, working collaboratively to create open source software for the express purpose of accelerating the advancement and adoption of SDN and NFV," said David Meyer, Technical Steering Committee chair, OpenDaylight Project. "In just months, the project has grown to hundreds of developers from a range of organizations and universities contributing code to a diverse set of projects and use cases. This recognition validates the work and progress we've made while giving a nod to the future technologies we will create together."
The OpenDaylight Project was formed to facilitate a community-led, industry-supported open source platform, consisting of code and architecture, to enable network programmability and accelerate to adoption of SDN and Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) at any size and scale. With support from the most important leaders in networking, OpenDaylight provides a platform for developers to utilize, contribute to and build commercial products and technologies, ultimately putting more network control in the hands of users.
"Recognizing the leaders who are advancing SDN technologies, TMC is proud to announce the OpenDaylight Project as a recipient of the annual Excellence in SDN Award," said Rich Tehrani, CEO, TMC. "OpenDaylight has demonstrated innovation and will help shape the face of the quickly evolving industry. It is our pleasure to honor this project for its transformative work."
SDN architecture has had a profound impact on the IT and Telecom industries, and the Excellence in SDN Awards were created to recognize the companies that lead the way in SDN architecture and applications. Winners of the Excellence in SDN Award are published in the October 2013 issue of INTERNET TELEPHONY Magazine.
