The true north in leveraging Big Data for business is what is known as machine learning (and predictive analytics). In order to successfully implement a machine learning strategy, however, one needs to define the problem (e.g., what is the measurement that the algorithms are to predict? Why does it matter? How is it related to other measurements/indicators? and so on).

While many such problems are well-known in many domains (e.g., every retailer likes to find the early predictors of churn and/or certain cross-sell opportunities), there are many problems that businesses are not even aware of. BI has shown an unprecedented promise in graphing terabytes of data in an easy-to-understand way. This, if leveraged properly, will provide an opportunity to tell high-imapct stories, generate novel hypotheses, and guide the machine learning developments. In my presentation, I will explain the fundamentals of exploratory BI, and how it can help the aforementioned topics.
