First generation product information management (PIM) processes and applications were designed and architected for buying, moving, transacting, and re-ordering merchandise in far less complicated commercial environments. Retailers relied on brands and manufacturers for the relatively little product data they needed. Today omni-channel retailers design, buy, make, and sell products and engage and convert customers in networks of designers, suppliers, distribution centers, stores, channels, publishers, marketplaces, and devices. Most of the value in product data lies in information for marketing, merchandising, advertising, and selling, not in information for buying, moving, and transacting. High-value product data can be unstructured, even visual or multi-media, and much of it comes from social and third-party sources. Slow, error-prone ingestion of product data into ecommerce and marketing systems decelerates time to market and introduces mistakes. Robust product data is essential for machine-learning approaches to marketing, merchandising, advertising, and personalization. This webinar will look at foundational technology—next generation PIM—for data-driven decisions in omni-channel retail. We'll look at how product data needs to flow—freely, quickly, and securely across trading partner networks into analytical, commercial, and marketing applications. From that we'll look at the characteristics of next generation product data management and conclude by looking at PIM's essential role in machine learning and customer-centric merchandising and marketing and personalization. The webinars will leave attendees with a few key takeaways: • Why legacy PIM applications and processes fall short of today's needs • What capabilities next generation PIM applications and processes should include • How they should assess their options for reinventing their PIM foundations • Who needs to part of their PIM digital transformation journey
