Cloud services offer businesses greater flexibility in managing applications and reducing downtime. How big is the cloud services opportunity? In its Global Cloud Index, Cisco forecasts that by 2018 over three quarters (78 percent) or workloads will be processed by cloud data centers, while 22 percent will be processed by traditional data centers. Depending on their specific needs, businesses have a wide array of cloud configurations to choose from: public, private and hybrid clouds. They can also choose from an array of traditional cloud providers like Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Rackspace or traditional telcos like AT&T, CenturyLink and Verizon. At the same time, data center providers like Equinix have been establishing direct and private connections to cloud providers like AWS and Microsoft Azure.
